So I mined / bought some Doge back in January 2014. Like so many, I have been searching for my old doge frantically for the last few weeks, and i managed to recover 2 dogecoin-wallet-key-2014-xx-xx files from a wiped laptop. I have done quite a bit of research figuring out what to do - this sub has so much info its been great. I have android dogecoin wallet version 2.0.8 on an old phone, which allowed me to import one of the keys which I guessed the pw for (empty). The second one I have been guessing pw’s for days, and its the later date which corresponds with my last transfer out of my other wallet so it should have the coins, and I verified that the last address the other wallet sent coins to is still full so really hoping thats what this key is for.
I finally guessed a password that gave a different response than “Wallet could not be restored: could not decrypt byes. Bad password?”. This time, I got “wallet could not be restored: cannot read protobuf (Protocol message tag had invalid wire type.) or base58 (cannot read keys). Bad password?”
I have been searching for anyone else who has had that message but havent found it yet. I got something similar when I had the correct PW for the other wallet, but was on a mewer version of dogecoin wallet. I tried the new pw on a diff phone with android dogecoin wallet 4.0.0 and I get the same “protocol message tag had invalid wire type” that I did with the other key when I used it on a newer version. Is there something I might be missing that would explain why it isnt working? Its possible this wallet had been updated since 2014, is there a different wallet type I should try?
Really appreciate the help, I got so excited when I got a different message than wrong password but cant figure this one out
